It will be said that the Supreme Court’s final verdict on the Ayodhya dispute is to come when the protagonist of the Ram temple construction movement, Lal Krishna Advani, is marginalized. His colleagues in the movement, Kalyan Singh, Uma Bharti, Vinay Katiyar, do not count anywhere in the Modi government. READ MORE

Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj are not in this world. Yes, Narendra Modi and Amit Shah Raj, his beloved disciples, are advancing Advani’s thinking on the country. The second thing is that these disciples are leaving no stone unturned to give pain to their guru. Today, even though the Modi-Shah duo has reached here on the strength of Hindutva and is looking forward to the strength of the BJP, Lal Krishna Advani has been the architect of this BJP’s strength.

It would not be wrong to say that the issues may have been of any kind, but it was Lal Krishna Advani who not only pulled the BJP on his own for a long time but also played an important role in creating saffron flock in the country. Recall that period of 1990, in which the movement led by LK Advani changed the political and social structure of the country on the issue of Ayodhya.

It was a period in which the country was already undergoing a transformation. VP Singh’s government was formed by replacing the Congress government at the centre. That too on the strength of the movement by rebelling against the Congress in the Bofors case. Yes, it was formed under the leadership of VP Singh, a minority government of the Janata Dal, which was supported by the BJP from outside.

After the JP movement, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lalu Prasad Yadav, who dominated the national political scene, had become the established socialist leaders of the country. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh was then Lalu Prasad Yadav of Bihar. These two leaders may have gained power on the strength of a long struggle, but everyone was feeling insecurity with each other.

Prime Minister VP Singh was apprehensive of the backward class standing with Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal. In this pull of socialists, saffron-based leaders announced the Karseva in Ayodhya. Even though leaders like VHP president Ashok Singhal were playing an active role in this movement along with organizations of various saints, the BJP was fully prepared to seize the movement. In Haridwar, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad met and announced to start the temple construction in Ayodhya from 30 October.

On the other hand, Lal Krishna Advani also started a rath yatra from Somnath to Ayodhya for the construction of the temple from 25 September. This rath yatra was supposed to reach Ayodhya on 30 October itself. Advani had the opportunity to play Hindutva cards through a rath yatra by playing the report of VP Singh’s Mandal Commission and playing backward cards.

The implementation of the report of the Mandal Commission by VP Singh was going through a phase of politics in the centre. It can also be said that there was confusion within the Janata Dal. VP Singh’s uproar with Devi Lal continued unabated. VP Singh, who was looking forward to his achievement by implementing the Mandal Commission report, had no idea that this decision could even take the sacrifice of his government. Advancing VP Singh’s Mandal Commission report, Advani chose a way to take out the rath yatra to counter it by running a ‘trump card’.

Advani was seeing the harvest of the vote bank of Hindus in the name of Ram Mandir. As soon as Advani’s rath yatra began, political pundits started counting the countdown of VP Singh government. To warm the atmosphere, on October 17, the BJP threatened to withdraw support from the Center if Advani’s rath yatra was stopped. On the other hand, in Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav took the front that he would not allow Parinde to be killed in Ayodhya on 30 October. On the 23rd, Lalu Prasad Yadav arrested Lal Krishna Advani in Bihar.

The BJP, seated in search of an opportunity, withdrew its support from the VP government of the Center the same day. The VP government came in a minority. Despite all the efforts of the government, Karsevaks continued to reach Ayodhya. The world saw everything that happened in Ayodhya on 30 October and then on 2 November.

Advani’s arrest not only brought down VP Singh’s government but also gave the BJP such strength that it continued to touch day by day. The Vajpayee government may not have been formed with an absolute majority, but today, for the second consecutive time under the leadership of Modi, the BJP is in power in the country. Yogi Adityanath Raj, who practised staunch Hinduism in Uttar Pradesh, is ruling. It is only a matter of time that if Lalu Prasad is in jail, Mulayam Singh Yadav is in the confidence of BJP. Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party is going through a phase of the disintegration while Lalu Prasad’s RJD is fighting for its survival.
