Great relief for Imran Khan, a decision on army chief
Finally, the Supreme Court of Pakistan heard the much-awaited decision on Thursday evening.
The court has extended the tenure of Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa by six months.
The Supreme Court has said in its order, “General Bajwa’s current appointment as army chief will be for six months.
After the enactment of the new law, his next term will be fixed.
Imran Khan will have to amend the Army Act and then it will be approved by the Parliament.
After this, Imran Khan will have the right to issue a notice to extend the tenure of the army chief.
In these six months, Imran Khan’s government will make a new rule in Parliament when the tenure of the army chief is extended.
The decision was delivered by a bench of Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Mian Mazhar Alam Khan and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah.
Pakistan’s breath was stuck for the last three days. The hearing of extension of General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s tenure as army chief was going on in the Supreme Court.
Javed Bajwa’s three-year tenure as the army chief was to end on November 29, ie, but Prime Minister Imran Khan had already extended it for three years.
The bench of three judges headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Supreme Court Justice Khosa was hearing for three days against the extension of tenure.
Many people feared that the Supreme Court may cancel the decision of Imran Khan.
Imran Khan’s government was also in a dilemma. An emergency meeting of the cabinet was held during the hearing itself and the resignation of the law minister was taken.
The law minister argued in favour of extending the term of General Bajwa after his resignation in the Supreme Court.
Imran Khan tweeted and expressed happiness on the Supreme Court’s decision.
He tweeted and said, “23 years ago, our party advocated the rule of independent judiciary and law for the first time. In 2007, PTI started an agitation for the independence of the judiciary and I went to jail for it.
I have great respect for Justice Khosa. He is Pakistan’s finest legalist. ‘’
Before coming to power, Imran Khan was not in favour of extending the tenure of the army chief.
He had said that extending the tenure of any army chief is the work of changing the rules of an army which weakens the army as an institution.
Imran’s statement came after the extension of the tenure of Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, who was the army chief in Pakistan Peoples Party government in 2010.
In a television interview at that time, Imran said, “Historically, no matter how the war is going on, the countries of the west do not extend the tenure of their army chief.
If done, the institutions are destroyed, as did General Pervez Musharraf and all the dictators have been doing. “
In contrast, General Raheel Sharif surprisingly announced 10 months before retiring that he would not accept the extension of tenure.
However, he was not even made such an offer. On this, Imran tweeted on 25 January 2016 that “General Raheel Sharif’s stature has increased with the announcement not to accept the extension of tenure”.
Since the formation of Pakistan, the army has played an important role in the country.
The army has always had a direct and indirect role in the government here.
Imran Khan had said in support of extending the tenure of General Qamar Javed Bajwa that it was necessary to stay in view of security concerns.
However, the Supreme Court has temporarily suspended the order to extend the tenure of Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa in Pakistan.
This order of the Supreme Court is considered unpredictable.
It is also being seen as a setback for Prime Minister Imran Khan.
It is believed that Prime Minister Imran Khan and General Qamar Javed Bajwa have very good relations and if the Supreme Court directs the removal of Bajwa then it will be disturbing for them. General Bajwa’s term ends on November 29 this month.
In the same case, Pakistan’s Law Minister, Farog Naseem, resigned on Tuesday.
When the Supreme Court suspended the order to extend the term of General Bajwa, an emergency meeting of the cabinet was held and it was decided that the Law Minister would resign.
It is being said that the law minister has voluntarily resigned. But it has also come to light that he had not sent an application to extend the tenure of General Bajwa to the President.
Pakistan Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on the resignation of the Law Minister, “The Law Minister has voluntarily resigned.
Now he will plead with the government in the matter of extending the tenure of the army chief in the Supreme Court.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has accepted the resignation of Farog Naseem.
Pakistani news channel Geo News says that PM Khan has expressed resentment over Naseem’s negligence in the matter of extending the tenure of the army chief.
However, Rashid has rejected these reports. He said that PM Khan has praised Naseem.
He said that in the emergency meeting, PM Khan has also justified the extension of the tenure of Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa.

A hearing in the Supreme Court against the extension of General Bajwa’s term will be held today also on 27 November.
On Tuesday, two judges, along with Supreme Court Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa temporarily suspended the extension of tenure. Along with this, the court has sent a summons to General Bajwa regarding the inconsistencies in the extension of tenure.
It is being said that Imran Khan’s government is on the backfoot in this case. Government officials say that they are correcting the mistake made in it.
The matter reached the Supreme Court through Hanif Rahi, a local lawyer.
Law Minister Farog Naseem had to see the application for extension of General Bajwa’s term.
However, the government is defending Farog and he will keep the government’s side in this matter in the Supreme Court.
