Sterilization has been the most popular method of contraception in India. Rather this option is used more than all over the world. After this comes the number of contraceptive drugs. Although there are many contraceptive options, they are very few in practice. READ MORE

One such option is IUD i.e. Intra-Uterine Device. The IUD comes in many sizes, resembling small paper clips in size.

This contraceptive is available from round and fringed to a four-legged spider.

The most common trend in India is the English letter T-shaped device, ie Copper-T. It is plastic and thread is left in it.

Its demand is more in western countries. It is fitted in the womb of a woman. Depending on the company and the quality, this device can stay in the uterus for up to 12 years.

It is considered the most successful contraceptive. But this does not mean that women all over the world know about it.

For example, only 27 per cent of women in Asia use an IUD contraceptive device. While only 6.1 per cent in North America, only two per cent of women in Australia and New Zealand know about it.

After all, why are women unaware of such an effective thing?

In the US, its marketing was not given much attention. The drug companies promoted the promotion of contraceptive pills and made big money. That is why women know more about them. She also uses them.

David Hubcher, a pioneer in the epidemics who works at FHI 360, a non-profit human development organization, says many companies have launched a variety of bullets. The formula of all pills is more or less the same. But every company sells its medicine in the market, saying it is the best contraceptive. The IUD has been available in the market since 1988, but its promotion and marketing has not received much attention.

There are many reasons for the lack of information about IUDs. Many kinds of rumours have been spread about it. For example, the sexual life of the IUD worsens. It hurts a lot. The biggest misconception is that IUD leads to infertility.

The first evidence of this misconception among people was found in the nineteenth century. Actually, before making IUD, researchers were working on many other tricks. Under the experience, many types of devices were installed in the womb of women. These were called stem pastries. They were made of rubber, glass or metal. But the most successful version of the IUD was made in 1920 by German doctor Ernst Grafenberg. G-spot is named after him.

The Gruffenberg designed IUD was like a plain ring that was placed in the uterus. Doctor Graffenberg was still working on his project that the Nazis of Germany caught him and put him in jail.

But later they were freed by Dr Margaret Sanger somehow and brought her to America. Coming here, he again started work on his project. The IUD has an important role in making China’s one-child policy a success.

Now China too has made many types of devices here. But they have to undergo an operation to get them back from the body.

In 1960, an IUD called Dalcon Shield was launched in the US. It was similar to the IUD of Doctor Graffenberg. But it was large in size and had a wire like a horseshoe.

Although the aim was to make a better IUD, its losses were more. Infection was also very quick with this. This device failed so badly that 50 thousand women in America filed a case against the company making it.

David Hübcher says that the modern version of the IUD is much better and effective. But it is important to make people aware of its benefits. Millions of women from Mumbai to Melbourne shoot as soon as they get up from the bed. This is not an easy task. While after taking IUD there is no need to eat so many pills and women remain mind free.

That is to say, the chances of conceiving by eating birth control pills are about one per cent. But practically every month, women forget to take the pill for about five days, which increases the chances of conceiving by 9%.

That is, if a woman takes a contraceptive pill for ten years, then the chances of getting pregnant increases by 61%. That is, the goal of eating so many pills is useless.

According to an estimate, 9 lakh 60 thousand women get pregnant every year even after taking birth control pills. There are also disadvantages to eating birth control pills for a long time.

All the methods of contraception, whether the use of condoms or any other way in practical life, they are not used exactly as they should be. But the IUD is different from all these measures. Copper IUD gives only one per cent chance of conceiving in one year and around eight per cent in ten years.

The IUD is effective for two reasons. Firstly, because of the IUD, the white cells of the blood in the womb rapidly reach the place where the sperm accumulates. These white cells rapidly kill sperm. According to one study, the IUD increases the number of such cells by a thousand times.

The second advantage of IUD depends on its quality and variety. The hormonal version of the IUD does not allow the sperm to pass near the egg born in the female’s womb. Apart from this, the copper IUD is a complete sperm killer. However, how iron irons make sperm negative is still a mystery.

The benefits of the IUD are its own place, some of its disadvantages. But there are equal losses compared to benefits. The first is that when the IUD device is placed, it is done on the top of the uterine membrane. Any type of medical problem can come in it. But this happens very rarely. Probably only one case would happen in a thousand.

Secondly, because of this, sometimes there is a risk of infection. Or if the IUD does not fit properly, then there is a chance of pregnancy, it may not be in the womb but also in the fallopian tube. However, in case of any kind of trouble, IUD can also be removed.

Apart from this, women are afraid that the pain will be too much because of IUD. but it’s not like that. It hurts a little bit, but it is for some time.

For a long time, doctors have also believed that the woman who can bear the pain of having an IUD can become a mother at least once because the birth canal spreads slightly after the birth of the child. but it’s not like that. However, now doctors are also trying the option of giving anaesthesia before applying IUD so that women do not feel even mild pain.

There is now a lot of emphasis on the use of IUDs. Although it does get a little expensive. Perhaps this is also why many women stay away from it. But the cost of taking birth control pills for ten years is more than that.
